Robin White Sox Shock Fans in Hiring Robin Ventura as ManagerVentura on Thursday was named manager of the Chicago White Sox, agreeing to a multiyear deal to lead the team for which he starred for a decade.

Notre Dame Moves into a New Conference!

Notre Dame scheduled a news conference for Wednesday, at which it will announce it will join Hockey East, sources have said.

The Fighting Irish were considering Hockey East and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference for the 2013–14 season, but the NCHC issued a news release Sunday, saying it would start with the eight teams that had already committed.

In Notre Dame, Hockey East adds a national name with a large fan base and a program that was in the Frozen Four last season and opens the 2011-12 campaign No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division I Men’s Poll.

But the South Bend, Ind., school is well outside the league’s current New England base, and it takes Hockey East to 11 teams — an uneven structure that in the past has been seen by some conference commissioners as undesirable.

Adding a 12th team to Hockey East could involve ECAC Hockey in the realignment discussion that has dominated the offseason.

Are UFC Fighters Underpaid?

UFC president Dana White has made very clear his feelings on longtime boxing promoter Bob Arum: he finds him to be a greedy old man who has helped to ruin the sport of boxing through his ignorance and self-serving business tactics. But, responding to a public declaration made by White recently more or less to that effect, Bob Arum levied his own criticism in White's direction. "I don't know where Dana is coming from, I never said anything bad about him," Arum told Max Boxing's Radio Rahim. "But Dana has to realize that because of the monopoly the UFC has, they pay their fighters maybe twenty percent of the proceeds that come in on a UFC fight and we pay fighters over 80-percent. So that's the difference, I mean talk about giving back to the sport, when you pay your talent twenty percent and boxing promoters - myself and others - pay over eighty percent, who's giving back to whom?"

Theo Epstein to Become Cubs General Manager?

On the surface, Theo Epstein is still the guy expected to lead the Red Sox back from the 7-20 September that left them outside looking in at the playoffs. But sources with strong ties to the Red Sox organization indicated Saturday that it's possible Epstein could follow Terry Francona out of the organization. The Cubs' interest in him as a general manager, as well as Epstein's curiosity about life outside Boston, could force the issue. One person close to Epstein said Saturday that the 37-year-old Boston-area native is "very interested'' in the Cubs' opening.
