The Golden Jet Book by Bobby Hull

When Bobby Hull gathered the puck to begin one of his electrifying sprints toward the opposing goalie, those lucky enough to secure seats jumped out of them in a frenzy of excitement, joining thousands of others in standing-room-only that flocked to watch one of the most charismatic athletes in sports history.

"The Golden Jet," as Hull was affectionately known, was among the most popular superstars ever to perform in the world's fastest sport, and his winning smile continues to make him an endearing and enduring figure.

Dismissed with Prejudice by Fletcher Cockrell

Dismissed with Prejudice is a legal drama that deals with the dark side of a powerful university, major college sports and state government. At the urging of a wealthy businessman and booster with mafia ties, an assistant coach is fired under false pretenses. Landon Duhon, a smalltown lawyer, reads about it in the paper and becomes suspicious. It's the third assistant in the last seven years fired by the same multi-million-dollar head coach, a political schmoozer and philanderer. Duhon sends his colleague to investigate and slowly uncovers layer upon layer of fraud, corruption and backroom deals. The assistant's career is over regardless of the outcome, but he decides to sue for wrongful termination, setting in motion a legal battle that escalates into threats, violence and murder. The novel is a classic "little guy against the system" story with insight into the bureaucracy, legal environment, and corrupting influence of money in the university and political arena.

Michael Jordan Turned Down by Carmelo Anthony

It has been previously reported that Bobcats owner Michael Jordan was perhaps looking to get in the mix to acquire Carmelo Anthony via trade. But according to sources speaking to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Anthony informed Jordan via a representative that he doesn't have interest in playing in Charlotte or signing an extension with the club. "The Bobcats figured their chances of getting Anthony to sign an extension were slim, but explored the possibility anyway given that Anthony has had a good relationship with Jordan as one of his product line's top endorsers," wrote Spears. As such, continue to expect the Nets to have the best shot at landing Anthony via trade with Charlotte pretty much out of the picture.

Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk Sign Contract Extensions with the Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed television play-by-play broadcaster Pat Foley and television analyst Eddie Olczyk to three-year contract extensions.

The extensions will keep the 2009 Midwest Emmy Award winners for “Outstanding Achievement In Play-By-Play” on Blackhawks broadcasts through the 2013-14 National Hockey League season. Foley, a native of Glenview, and Olczyk, hailing from Palos Heights, have a combined 38 years of experience in the Blackhawks organization on the ice and in the broadcast booth.

“Today is a proud moment for us as an organization to extend Pat and Eddie through the 2013-14 season,” said Blackhawks Executive Vice President Jay Blunk. “Blackhawks fans connect in a very special way with each and every broadcast, helping to advance our brand throughout the Midwest. We are fortunate to have one of the premiere broadcast tandems in all of professional sports.”

Household ratings for Blackhawks games on Comcast SportsNet have increased over 130 percent while contests on WGN-TV have increased over 85 percent since Foley and Olczyk were paired together at the start of the 2008-09 regular-season. Comcast SportsNet’s top five all-time rated broadcasts were recorded during the first (one game) and second rounds (four games) of the Blackhawks run to the 2010 Stanley Cup, all of which had Foley and Olczyk with the call.

Currently in his 28th season with the organization, Foley called Blackhawks games from 1981 to 2006, and returned to the booth for the 2008-09 season to partner with Olczyk on all games on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and WGN Channel 9. He attended Loyola Academy in Wilmette and received a degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University. Foley received an Emmy for “Outstanding Achievement – Sports Program Live Series” in 1991 and was inducted into the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

Olczyk is now in his fifth season as the television analyst for Blackhawks hockey on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and WGN Channel 9. A veteran of 16 National Hockey League seasons, he began his career as an 18-year old with his hometown Blackhawks in 1984-85 after being chosen with the third overall selection of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Olczyk recorded 77 goals and 209 points in 322 regular-season tilts over five seasons with Chicago (1984-87, 1998-00) and tallied 13 points (7G, 6A) in 21 Stanley Cup Playoff tilts with the Blackhawks. In his career, he scored 342 goals and recorded 794 points in 1,031 regular-season games with Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Winnipeg, the New York Rangers and Los Angeles, winning a Stanley Cup with the Rangers in 1994, and was also a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team. Olczyk also serves as the lead television analyst for NHL national broadcasts on NBC and Versus.
