In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, the Chicago Bulls have launched a team-wide effort to improve the environmental performance of the organization.
The “Go Green” initiative will address environmental conservation policies within the Bulls offices as well as promote and educate Bulls fans with ways they can help including an in-arena “Go Green” night and community initiatives to promote recycling and energy conservation.
To tip-off the “Go Green” program, Bulls center Aaron Gray teamed up with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County to host a clean up event on Monday at the Schiller Woods Forest Preserve, located on West Irving Park Road in Chicago.
Beginning at 12 p.m., Gray was joined by Benny the Bull and 150 volunteers from the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, as well as students from James Jordan Boys & Girls Club and the General Wood Boys & Girls Club.
The volunteers spent the afternoon helping to restore the habitat and appearance of the forest preserve by picking up litter, removing harmful plants such as garlic mustard and cutting buckthorn. The goal was to enhance the health of the area and rescue some two hundred-year-old oak trees in the forest.
After the clean up efforts, the Bulls hosted a wrap-up ceremony and dedicated a Bulls sign on the site.
