Chicago Bear Players Head to Nigeria on Special Intervention Mission

Nigeria-America players in the National Football League (NFL) of the United States of America will on today arrive in Nigeria on a special intervention mission.

There are: Amobi Okoye (Houston Texans), Osi Umenyiora (Newyork Giants), Adewole Ogunleye (Chicago Bears), Isreal Idonijie (Chicago Bears) and Ahman Green ((Houston Texans).

Briefing newsmen at the weekend in Abuja ahead of the arrival of the team ‘Athletes in the Diaspora Community Interventions Mission’, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Gaston Resources Nigeria Limited, Mr. Theodore Omalu, said the team would be in the country to assist the Federal Government in attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

He said the athletes were among Nigerians plying their trade abroad who have made fortunes and would want to give back to their communities.

Omalu stated that “the team which would be visiting the country from 11th to 17th of March will help the nation attain the MDGs of eradicating poverty and hunger and promoting physical and mental health through targeted interventions in healthcare and education.”

The team is expected to visit five states- Lagos, Enugu , Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory –– during which modern medical equipment, including disposable AIDS testing devices and pregnancy test kits would be donated to selected medical schools and hospitals.
